"Pure Curry" Now at Amazon.com

I recently discovered that my latest piano collection "Pure Curry" is available online from Amazon.com. I was surprised to find it listed as a book. (It says on the site that it's "hardback" but it's not.) It is a book, but it's all notated music.

In any case, for all those interested in sacred piano jazz, I hope you'll check this out. These arrangements are along the lines of my other two collections (Blue Curry and Curry and Salsa, see the "Recordings" link for more info) but are meant to work for solo piano. (But I wouldn't mind at all if you added rhythm section.)

Craig's Picks Updated

I just finished updating the Craig's Picks section with new book, CD, and worship chorus recommendations. Surprisingly to me, this is one of the most frequently visited areas of my site.

Two Down, Three to Go

The good news is I finished the two TTBB pieces I needed by this Friday for the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma. The better news is that my deadline for the three SSAA pieces I have to write is not August 1, but August 20. That's mighty good news for me.

Here's the text to one of the pieces I finished this weekend, Consider the Cross. It's an acappella arrangement of a worship chorus/hymn I wrote several months back in snow storm. (very different weather from the 100 degree heat we've been having!)

Consider the cross,
The wounds of Him who died.
The tragedy of God
In Jesus crucified.
The glory of redemption
Came a such a costly price,
How could any father
Give his son for sacrifice?

O consider the cross, O consider the cross
O consider the cross of Jesus Christ.

Consider the cross,
The sin our Savior bore
Though He had never known
The weight of sin before.
Crucified in weakness
Made alive by God's own pow'r
The purpose of a lifetime
Met in His last hour.

O consider the cross, O consider the cross
O consider the cross of Jesus Christ.

Consider the cross,
His blood which freely flowed
And washed away your sin
Like freshly fallen snow.
Perfected in His suffering
How could I embrace no less
From Him who did not spare His Son
To become my Righteousness?

O consider the cross, O consider the cross
O consider the cross of Jesus Christ.

And So It Begins...

This is the first entry in my new weblog, or "blog" for those who are into webspeak. I'm hoping this will be a much easier way to keep you who visit the site on a regular basis more current with what's going on in my world, both "professionally" and personally.

I've spent the better part of today getting this thing working, when I should have been busy writing for the Oklahoma Baptists. I have 4 choral pieces due on August 1st. I guess I'll be burning the midnight oil a bit the next few days.

Amy and the kids left this morning to visit her folks in western Kansas. The house is unbelievably quiet, and I keep expecting to hear Ella's feet bounding down the stairs to my office/studio at any moment.

Well, I guess it's time for a dinner break, and then on to the music.
