I grew up in the small town of Corry in northwest Pennsylvania and came to Christ at age 8 while attending a nearby church camp. My earliest musical experiences were singing in the children's choir at church, and I began trumpet lessons in the fourth grade. I was also interested in the piano, and although I could play some things by ear, I didn't begin lessons until age 12, which is also when I wrote my first song.
In the eighth grade, I took a class in music composition at a local university with several other gifted students from around the area. It was there that I blossomed. (My mother could still show you the professor's comment sheet on which he noted, "Craig has written more than the rest of the class combined.")
