Man, this is a great book! If you have a passion for worship this is a must-read book for you! Wright is a British theologian and biblical scholar so I was anticipating a dull read when I bought this book, but he really surprised me!
The Holy Spirit really challenged me in every chapter, and I think I highlighted at least a third of it as I read. Early on he writes, "Why do I want to talk about worship? First, there are some central passages in scripture which speak of our citizenship in heaven, and which speak of it not least as a contstant and delighted experience of worship.....Sounds boring? If so, it shows how impoverished our idea of worship has become."
He does a masterful job of balancing both the majesty of God with the view that He is a PERSONAL and RELATIONAL God. He also does the best job of anyone I've read of explaining that worship fuels mission, and that the two go hand in hand: "Worship," he writes, "is love on its knees; mission--is love on its feet." I love that!
